Little Guyana Votes Festival

To commemorate National Voter Registration Day 2021, Caribbean Equality Project launched the "Little Guyana Votes Festival," a culturally-responsive health fair and hyper-local civic engagement drive in Richmond Hill, Queens. Little Guyana is home to the largest South Asian and Indo-Caribbean populations- one of the most under-resourced immigrant communities in New York City. The community event occurred on 120th Street, between Liberty Ave and 103rd Ave, an NYC DOT Open Street. The event featured a press conference with local political activists, elected officials, local faith leaders, and live music and cultural performances to increase voter participation and engagement among residents in NYC's Little Guyana. The unique open street space allows local community-based organizations to share resources, city agencies to provide on-site social services, and community members to access housing, immigration, econice, and health information, such as COVID-19 testing and vaccine information.
