OUR VOTE, OUR VOICE

The Caribbean Equality Project (CEP) builds political power through civic engagement, voter registration, public education, and legislative advocacy.

"Mash-Up De Vote" is CEP's culturally responsive, nonpartisan campaign to educate voters and build political power. In 2025, CEP will continue its efforts by organizing phone and text banking to mobilize Caribbean immigrants, Caribbean Americans, and LGBTQ+ individuals to vote in New York City elections. Activities include producing local voter guides, conducting digital outreach via social media, and engaging in targeted door-to-door outreach and street canvassing in Caribbean-centric neighborhoods, such as Little Guyana in Queens, Little Caribbean in Brooklyn, and Castle Hill and Soundview in The Bronx.

Each year, CEP registers voters, hosts political candidate forums, organizes voter education events, such as the "Little Guyana Votes Festival," and collaborates with community partners to amplify Caribbean voices. This fosters civic participation and builds political power for Afro- and Indo-Caribbean LGBTQ+ immigrants at all levels of government.

CEP collaborates with community-based and faith-based partners to organize direct actions. These efforts engage documented and undocumented LGBTQ+ community members and their families with elected officials through town halls, community meetings, and hearings, regardless of immigration status or voter eligibility.

RANKED CHOICE VOTING

The June 24 primary election will use Ranked Choice Voting for Mayor, City Council, Comptroller, and Public Advocate. Other offices on the ballot, like District Attorney and judges, will not use Ranked Choice Voting since they are not city offices.

In primary and special elections for city offices, you can now rank up to five candidates in order of preference instead of choosing just one.
