Dr. Preity Kumar
Dr. Preity Kumar is a visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Hamilton College, NY. She holds a Ph.D. in Gender, Feminist, and Women’s Studies from York University, Toronto, Canada. Before arriving at Hamilton College, she taught at the College of New Jersey, York University and George Brown College in Toronto. Her work examines women loving women’s relationships, violence, and LGBTQ rights in Guyana and the broader Caribbean. Dr. Kumar has published in the Journal of Lesbian Studies, the Middle Atlantic Review of Latin American Studies, and co-author two book chapters.
Dr. Kumar is also a co-founder of Lotus, a non-profit organization in Toronto working with Indo-Caribbean women on gender-based violence and poverty.
