Caribbean Equality Project (CEP) invites passionate, imaginative community leaders, advocates, and professionals to apply to serve on our 2026–2028 Board of Directors. We are seeking individuals ready to contribute to the highest levels of organizational governance and collective decision-making in service of Caribbean LGBTQ+ and immigrant communities in New York City.
The organization is navigating a critical period of growth amid escalating attacks on LGBTQ+ and immigrant communities, while continuing to serve as a vital lifeline for resources and support. As a leading member of multiracial and LGBTQ+ coalitions, CEP works in solidarity with partners across New York to advance rights, defend justice, and secure stronger protections and equity for vulnerable communities.
We have contributed to historic legislative and budget victories, including launching our very own Capital Funding Campaign to establish New York City’s first Caribbean LGBTQ+ Community Center!
At this pivotal moment, we are seeking leaders ready to contribute their time, expertise, and knowledge to guide the next chapter of CEP’s impact and growth.

Board Governance
A board member with experience in board governance brings strong leadership, oversight, and strategic thinking to the organization. They help guide policy, support sound decision-making, strengthen accountability, and ensure the nonprofit remains focused on its mission and long-term sustainability. Their governance experience is especially valuable in helping the board operate effectively, fulfill its fiduciary responsibilities, and advance the organization’s impact.
Immigration and Legal Services
A board member with experience in immigration and legal services brings valuable expertise in advocacy, legal strategy, and community support. They help guide organizational governance, strengthen programs serving immigrant communities, and ensure the nonprofit remains grounded in equity, compliance, and mission-driven leadership. Their background supports informed decision-making on legal, policy, and service-delivery matters while advancing the organization’s long-term impact.
Accounting and Finance
A board member with experience in accounting and finance brings valuable expertise in financial oversight, budgeting, and long-term sustainability. They help ensure responsible stewardship of organizational resources, support sound fiscal decision-making, and strengthen transparency and accountability across the nonprofit’s operations. Their background is especially useful in reviewing budgets, monitoring financial health, and guiding strategic planning to support the organization’s mission and growth.
Fundraising and Development
A board member with experience in fundraising and development brings valuable skills in donor engagement, relationship-building, and resource generation. They help advance the organization’s mission by supporting fundraising strategy, cultivating partnerships, and strengthening revenue opportunities that sustain and grow the nonprofit’s impact. Their background also supports the board's efforts in strategic planning, community engagement, and long-term organizational sustainability.
Advocacy and Public Policy
A board member with experience in advocacy and public policy brings strong insight into legislative issues, community engagement, and systems change. They help guide the organization’s strategic direction, strengthen its public policy efforts, and advance mission-driven advocacy that supports the communities it serves. Their experience is especially valuable in building partnerships, shaping policy priorities, and representing the organization in broader civic and governmental spaces.
Government Relations
A board member with experience in government relations brings valuable expertise in public affairs, policy engagement, and relationship-building with elected officials and government agencies. They help the organization navigate legislative and regulatory environments, strengthen advocacy efforts, and build strategic partnerships that advance the mission. Their background is especially useful in elevating the organization’s voice, supporting policy priorities, and expanding its impact in the public sphere.
As committed Board Members, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Partnering with the Executive Director to strengthen and expand CEP’s programs, services, campaigns, and community and government relationships
Actively contributing to fundraising efforts that support long-term sustainability and organizational growth
Ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, in alignment with CEP’s mission, bylaws, and governance policies
Attending and actively participating in quarterly Board meetings and relevant assigned committees
Maintaining consistent engagement with CEP’s work, including being present at key events, initiatives, and community spaces as ambassadors of the organization
Engaging thoughtfully in organizational decision-making and exercising sound judgment in all Board matters
