New York City
LGBTQ+ Immigrant Mental Health Survey
Centering LGBTQ+ immigrant voices for mental health justice
This historic survey, led by the Caribbean Equality Project in partnership with the City College of New York’s Master of Public Administration (MPA) program, is designed to deepen understanding of the mental health experiences of LGBTQ+ immigrants in New York City. It focuses on barriers to care, emotional well-being, stress, and community support, centering the voices and lived experiences of LGBTQ+ immigrant New Yorkers who are too often overlooked in traditional research and services.
As part of a broader research initiative, this study seeks to learn more about the challenges LGBTQ+ immigrants may face when trying to access mental health care, including financial, cultural, linguistic, and systemic obstacles. It also aims to better understand the broader emotional landscape of participants’ lives—how stress, discrimination, resilience, and community networks shape day-to-day well-being.
The information and lived experiences you share through this survey will help identify gaps in mental health care, highlight community needs, and guide policy, advocacy, and research that strengthen support for LGBTQ+ immigrant communities in New York City. Findings from this study will inform future programs, services, and culturally responsive initiatives led by community-based organizations and institutions committed to health equity and immigrant justice.
Your responses will be used for statistical analysis to understand patterns and experiences across the community, rather than focusing on any single individual. No personally identifying information is being collected, and all responses will remain confidential, in keeping with ethical research standards and privacy protections.
This questionnaire should take approximately 3–5 minutes to complete. In line with research ethics, the survey includes an informed consent section that must be reviewed and completed before you continue. Participation in this study is entirely voluntary, and you may choose to stop or skip any question at any time, for any reason, without penalty or loss of benefits.
Thank you for considering participation in this survey and for contributing your experiences and insights. Your voice will help advance more inclusive, affirming, and accessible mental health support for LGBTQ+ immigrant communities across New York City.
